Have you met Sumo Citrus?
Chances are you’ve seen it in your grocery store’s produce department and thought that’s a funny looking orange. Bumpy skin with a knob on top. That funny looking “orange” is one of the world’s largest and sweetest mandarins, celebrated for its incredible taste and distinct looks. It’s super sweet, seedless, and easy to peel. Originally cultivated in Japan it did not become available in the US until 2011.
Sumo Citrus is only available January through April and has quickly become one of citrus lover’s favorite fruits. Hy Vee stores are giving shoppers in Omaha and Council Bluffs a chance to try the Sumo Citrus Friday (1/21) from 4p to 7p and Saturday (1/22) from 10 am to 2 pm.
