Janitors Coworkers Raised $10K To Buy Him A Car So He Didn’t Have To Walk Miles To Work

It only took four months of employment at Farmington Elementary School in Germantown, Tennessee for Robert Reed to become known as a tireless worker who always showed up with a smile. The 60-year-old janitor, beloved by students and teachers, often looked for more ways to help out around the school, even after his duties were completed.

Everyone at the school agrees, “Mr. Robert adds a little sunshine to our school.” But what they came to know over time is that Mr. Robert was doing all that work, and staying friendly— after a long commute.

Because of his strong relationships with faculty and staff, he could catch a ride to the bus at the end of some days, but still— most days he was leaving work around 3 pm and not getting home until after 7 pm.

But then the school took action to return Reed’s kindness and dedication. In just over 20 hours they raised $7,000 to help their friend and coworker buy a car. By the time fundraising ended, they’d brought in over $10,000.

Reed received the gift in an emotional video. He drops to his knees, in tears, thanking his colleagues.
