Sunday, December 1, 2019 | noon-5 p.m. | Various Downtown Arts & Cultural Institutions
The Family Festival offers the community an opportunity to experience many of Omaha’s leading downtown attractions for free. This year’s Family Festival will be held Sunday, December 1, from noon to 5 p.m. Each participating site will offer free admission and family activities. In addition, Omaha musicians will perform at select attractions.

Ollie the Trolley will provide FREE and HEATED trolley rides between locations!
2019 Participating Organizations & Activities:
Omaha Children’s Museum, 500 South 20th Street
- Engage in active play in the museum’s exhibits.
- Visit Santa and his elves in the festively-decorated Santa’s Magic exhibit.
- Enjoy the free Freezing Cold Science Shows in the Science Theatre.
- Take a carousel or train ride for $2 each.
Omaha Police Mounted Patrol Barn, 615 Leavenworth Street
- Tour the stables and visit with Santa.
- Meet and greet with the officers and horses. Learn how police officers care for the animals at the Mounted Patrol Barn and get your picture taken with the horses; officers will present horse demonstrations.
- Cowboy hat decorating.
- Pony rides.
- Face painting and balloon art.
The Durham Museum, 801 South 10th Street
- Experience the wonder of the season at The Durham Museum during Christmas at Union Station.
- See Omaha’s largest indoor Christmas tree, visit with Santa and enjoy family-friendly holiday activities, including live musical performances.
- Visit the Holiday Cultural Trees exhibit, an annual favorite which highlights the holiday traditions of approximately a dozen cultures in the Omaha community.
- View the wonderful temporary exhibitions on display including Race: Are We So Different? and Louder Than Words: Rock, Power & Politics.
W. Dale Clark Library, 215 South 15th Street
- Meet and get your photo taken with Bruce the Bear and OPL’s mascot Scamper.
- Take home your very own children’s book for FREE — while supplies last.
- Family members of all ages can hear live holiday music, color and listen to storytimes by OPL librarians.
Joslyn Art Museum, 2200 Dodge Street
- Explore Joslyn Art Museum’s galleries including the exhibitions Word and Image: The Saint John’s Bible and Everyday People: The Art of James E. Ransome. Check out Joslyn’s new acquisitions in the contemporary galleries and visit the Riley CAP Gallery to see “picotages” by contemporary artist Paul Anthony Smith. Word and Image is a ticketed exhibition: free for children and a special $5 discounted admission for adults during the Family Festival only.
- Swing by ART WORKS: A Place for Curiosity, offering nine creative project stations for all ages.
- Visit the studios to experiment with hands-on activities and create your own works of art.
- Enjoy holiday music groups.
Downtown YMCA, 430 S. 20th Street
- Experience the YMCA with an interactive activity tour. The tour includes holiday-themed crafts, healthy snack station, holiday music – and a final stop visiting Santa. Write your Christmas letter/list to Santa while warming up with hot chocolate and cookies.
